I'm going to have a stall at a craft fair tomorrow, the first one for nearly 2 years. The last one I was at was badly (if at all) advertised, the footfall was atrocious and I barely covered my table costs (and the cake, coffee, tea and other time filling activities). It was such a shame because the previous year, same place, same weekend, but different organisers, had been a huge success.
I came home very disillusioned, went on line onto my Facebook page and sold the lot in 4 hours, and decided that was the way forward. However, I am a people person, I like to chat to anyone who buys things I make, I like to get feedback, suggestions and criticisms, something you can't truly get with on line sales. So, here I go again, off to a craft fair.
There was some other things which changed my mind though, one was the 'I can do that' moment and another was the decision to look at bigger, better managed events, in far more attractive surroundings. I have also visited a few to see what's on offer by other crafters and I tried not to make the same as everyone else (I get bored when I see the same old, same old at craft fairs too!)
As a result on my stall this Easter there is no jewellery, wood turning, hearts, cushions, decoupage cards. No glassware, boxes, children's clothes, bags, knitted babies clothes. No bunting, candles, homemade soaps, sweets, bath products or cupcakes. So, what's left you may ask, well, it will all be on my stall tomorrow so if you have time to come down to Doddington Hall, pop by and say hello xx
My test run at home!
well done Linda hope it went well xx Sarah
